SIT BACK AND TAKE A SEC . . .
A Little Background
A Moment from My First Year At Fuse Network
I have been associated with the Fuse Network for the past year working on all graphic aspects of the channel. Recently I have been in the New York offices involved in their music video title design process using the Grass Valley Miranda XStudio family of products while simultaneously instructing the design staff in Los Angeles on how to build them.
In November the creative director requested a Fuse logo with falling leaves in the text. I presented him a finished product using Adobe After Effects before deadline. In the summer I was able to create and design a thirty second sponsored Fuse Concert “Pack Hack” using just a few seconds of concert footage and an audio track. Snapping a picture of the product and manipulating it into the animation saved the network the time an cost of a professional product film shoot.
During that time I was providing support for the graphics department by taking on the staff’s day-to-day responsibilities so they could design the opening titles for the ‘WhatsUrThing’ with Cipha Sounds television show.
Before making a name for myself as the ‘go to’ man in the Fuse Network, I was a member of the graphic design team at the Food Network. One promo for the Red Lobster ‘Endless Shrimp’ campaign was a last minute request which I created before the deadline and under budget.
While putting together season nine of ‘The Best Thing I Ever Ate’ it was discovered midway through that there was an aspect ratio issue resulting in the tops of heads getting chopped off. Since there was no way to reshoot, It was the first time in my career where I was asked if I had the ability to build hair.It worked out, I was asked to provide more visual effects for the show in the forms of revising some of the text so it stayed within the title safe and remaking some of the elaborate sweepers around them. All the requests earned me visual effects credits for the second half of the season.
I’ve also used my rotoscoping techniques to save the Food Network in reshooting costs. One such instance was with their ‘Scratched’ digital feature program. In it a cat walks in front of a blank TV screen. Since the screen needed to display the show open credit, I was able to rotoscope around the cat to successfully add the show open and save the existing shoot.
